Youth Counselor

Job Responsibilities:
Abides by the policies and procedures set forth in the Green Chimneys Policy Manual.
Directly supervises and is accountable for the residents at all times while on duty. Is familiar with “supervision of residents” hand out.
Provides a safe, clean, attractive physical environment for the residents. Living unit upkeep is of utmost importance
Follows living unit routine. Uses structure and sets limits effectively
Shows competence in supervising residents on off-grounds trips. Follows procedure for vehicle usage
Is physically capable of participating in, planning and supervising age appropriate recreational activities for residents
Develops positive working relationships with living unit staff and understands the concept of team work
Is familiar with other departments on campus (social service, education, maintenance etc.) and makes use of appropriate resources
Be proficient with policies and procedures for handling emergency situations
Completes all assigned paperwork as delegated by supervisor
Participates in all training sessions and scheduled meetings related to your assignment as a Youth Counselor
Demonstrates the ability to form trusting relationships with residents and serves as a positive role model in the areas of dress, language and behavior
Follows established individual Treatment Team Plans for the various residents. Uses appropriate methods to attain goals
Encourages residents to participate in religious instructions and/or observance in their own faith.

Shifts are from 2pm-12am and include weekends. Flexible schedule preferred as shift hours may vary.
This position is a full time position, working 40 hours each week. Pay begins at 12.50 an hour.
Job Qualifications:
Youth Counselor II: HS Diploma or equivalent and 1-5 years of related experience
Youth Counselor III & IV: Bachelor's or Associate's Degree and 3-5 years of related experience
Shifts are from 2pm-12am and include weekends. Flexible schedule preferred as shift hours may vary.
This position is a full time position, working 40 hours each week

Satisfactory completion of agency requirements (reference checks, DMV reference check, SCR, drug screening, and agency driver course).
Non-judgmental attitude toward youth and co-workers
Ability to read, comprehend and follow program policy manuals and guidelines
Basic knowledge of youth development
Ability to convey empathy
Ability to de-escalate crisis situations
Listening and writing skills
