Green Chimneys is seeking a Water Safety Instructor for the indoor pool at our Brewster, NY campus. This position is considered “Per Diem”, which leaves YOU with a highly flexible schedule, to make your own hours. This position offers continued trainings through continued teaching opportunities. Water Safety Instructors are responsible for maintaining swim lesson participant safety, with partnership from Lifeguards on shift. In-house certifications and re-certifications are performed/ provided. 

Basic Responsibilities of a Water Safety Instructor:

• Ensure participant safety at all times.
• Come prepared and ready teach all lessons in the water, if necessary.
• Teach water safety to participants as a part of regular swim lessons.
• Follow curriculum as outlined by the pool facility
• Evaluate swim lesson participants
• Be able to perform and demonstrate all 4 strokes up to a satisfactory level
• Be able to express to parents and/or participants of where the participant stands in their swimming ability.
• Maintain safe deck space free of debris and clutter from equipment.
• Check and maintain swim equipment and report any issues tot eh Supervisor.
• Submit course records on time.
• Other job responsibilities as specified by Supervisor.

• Be at least 16 years of age
• American Red Cross [or equivalent] Water Safety Instructor certification
• American Red Cross [or equivalent] First Aid & CPR certification
• American Red Cross [or equivalent] Lifeguarding certification
• Other local or state required certifications
• Driver’s license (preferred)
• Proficient communication skills; both verbally and written
• Comfortable interacting with people of various ages and from diverse backgrounds.
• Maintain fitness levels (endurance and strength) to the degree of being able to perform job duties
