Recreation Management Internship

Green Chimneys is happy to welcome Recreation Management Internships!

SPECIFIC REAPONSIBILITIES

In this role, interns will work alongside the leadership team in the Recreation Department. Interns will be able to hone skills necessary for working in a treatment setting and recreation field in general. They will have the opportunity to develop their skills through hands-on work with  residential and day treatment students at Green Chimneys. Interns will also assist in implementing and scheduling programming. Responsibilities include facilitation of recreational programs, assisting recreation staff with afterschool and evening specialized groups/programs, helping with special events, documentation of assessments, and evaluations.

 

Interns will be exposed to a wide variety of administrative and hands-on experiences, including, but not limited to:  budgeting, staff supervision, hiring, training, program development and implementation, marketing, program evaluation, special events, facility management/supervision, and the opportunity to attend staff and advisory committee meetings.

Interns will set goals and objectives according to their individual needs and resources. Within the internship experience, students must consider the necessary competency requirement for integration of all curricular goals. Each internship strives to integrate curricular goals with personalized needs, so as to create individually relevant professional experiences.  Applicants must be currently enrolled in a undergraduate or graduate recreation (or related) degree in order to qualify).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Interest in working with children who have special emotional and behavioral needs
  • College junior or at least 21 years of age
  • Commitment of at least three months or length of time determined by school placement
  • Experience working with children is helpful but not essential
  • Willingness to participate in new situations and an interest in active learning

We have a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT)  and a Certified Recreation Therapist (RTC) that may include art, drama, dance/movement and music therapists.

Please note that housing is not guaranteed.

Interns are expected to earn academic credit for this experience. Please consult with your faculty advisor. This internship is open to those enrolled in a relevant academic program.
