BROAD RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Teacher Mentor is responsible for teaching a self-contained or departmentalized class during a 12-month school year. Specific duties and responsibilities will vary depending on the subject matter the Teacher will teach.  Additional Mentor responsibilities are explained below and are expected to be performed during the school year that mentorship duties are assigned.   

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES (performed by all Teachers):

• Develop an I.E.P. (Individualized Education Program) covering a twelve-month period on each student assigned and complete progress marks and comments as indicated on the IEP.
• Ensure that students receive related services and accommodations as outlined in the I.E.P.
• Complete all necessary reports and documentation as per agency standards
• Maintain an attractive and educationally appropriate classroom environment
• Share in the maintenance of building bulletin boards
• Read, understand and comply with policies, procedures and expectations outlined in the school and agency manuals
• Participate in all meetings as required and school activities, as described by program calendar including but not limited to:  Parent/Teacher Conferences, open house, staff meetings, CSE meetings, Red Flag Reviews, etc.
• Work cooperatively with all departments in our agency and communicate student concerns with the treatment team and supervisor
• Develop plans for effectively communicating progress of students with families, related service providers, and residential staff (if applicable)
• Assist in all ways to create the best possible education program for our students
• Responsible for the accountability and supervision of all students at all times
• Implement Common Core State Standard curriculum to students with varying disabilities
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate those objectives to the students
• Plan and teach lessons with a balanced approach of instruction, demonstration and independent work that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate
• Provide direct and indirect instruction to students in a positive and professional manner
• Maintain an accurate and complete grade book, and record of other required data to prepare and verify  written reports on students, as required by laws, school districts and administrative requirements.
• Create and maintain lesson plans and plan books that address student needs while meeting state standards
• Modify and differentiate curriculum to meet individual student needs
• Utilize curriculum that reflects the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds and needs of the students served.
• Implement a positive behavior management system for the classroom, providing crisis intervention when needed
• Directs teacher assistants, 1:1 aides, student teachers, volunteers and/or learn and earn workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students
• Other duties as assigned

ADDITIONAL TEACHER MENTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Meet regularly with assigned mentees to provide ongoing feedback regarding job performance
• Perform classroom observation of mentees with goal-specific feedback
• Maintain and submit monthly Mentor Logs to Education Department leadership
• Masterful understanding of the Teacher Mentor Program Checklist.  Coach and train through the list with the Teachers assigned to mentor
• Assist with the review of IEPs, grades, and comments drafted by mentees
• Model professional relationships for all Teachers and Teacher’s Assistants while upholding positive working relationships with staff and students
• Assist mentees with lesson planning that follows the explicit direct instruction model
• Attend individual or group Mentor Program meetings as required and/or needed
• Take a leadership role by actively facilitating or planning for professional learning committees
• Participate as an observer in Administrative learning walks
• Actively participate in the agency’s PBIS or PBIS sub-committees
• Participate in other committee work as requested, which can include, but may not necessarily be limited to: RTI, MTSS, ARTI, school safety/reunification, nutrition, literacy curriculum, math curriculum, school culture, etc.

Starting Salary: $5,000 annual differential added to already established Teacher salary
